2012 will mark the 2oth season for Major League Baseball’s Arizona Fall league, a short season league designed to showcase some of MLB’s top prospects from all levels of MiLB.

For the players, the AFL is a chance to work on aspects of their overall play with out the pressure of the regular season behind them. For the exec’s, the league serves as another chance to view some key pieces to the future of their respective teams before making another round of evaluations heading in to the following season.

Some notable players to have suited up in the AFL include Albert Pujols, Derek Jeter, Torri Hunter and Paul Konerko to name a few. All of which not only shined during their stints in the league, they are now featured members of the AFL’s Hall of Fame.

The Blue Jays have sent some important prospects threw the AFL since it’s inception in 1992 including Shawn Greene, Chris Carpenter and a relatively unpolished Roy Halladay.

In 2012, the Blue Jays will be sending 8 players who will all suit up for the Salt River Rafters in the upcoming weeks. Of those 8, 4 are pitchers, 2 outfielders, 1 Catcher and infielder .

Toronto’s class of 2012 include:

Sam Dyson – 24 – Pitcher- 1 season of MiLB service time.

Deck McGuire – 23 – Pitcher – 2 seasons of MiLB service time.

John Stilson – 22 – Pitcher – 1 season of MiLB service time.

Ryan Tepera – 24 – Pitcher – 4 seasons of MiLB service time.

Sean Ochinko – 24 – Catcher/1st base – 4 seasons of MiLB service time.

Ryan Goins – 24 – Shortstop – 4 seasons of MiLB service time.

Jake Marisnick – 21 – Outfield – 3 seasons of MiLB service time.

Kevin Pillar – 23 – Outfield – 2 seasons of MiLB service time.
