Blue Jay of the Week!

Who the hell is this kid?

This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. Moises Sierra! (OF-14)

What can I say?  I’m really liking what we’ve seen from Moises Sierra thus far.

Through 13 games, 10 of which have been starts, the 23 year old from Santo Domingo has posted an impressive .359 batting average.  Sure he was a victim of the strikeout this past week a few too many times but the kid has shown us some power in the form of his first 2 career home runs.

His base running hasn’t been the most impressive but he’s proved that he’s aggressive and I guess his 1 stolen base suggests that he has some sort of speed.  I don’t think we need to worry about his mistakes though because as he gets comfortable and has more time to communicate with the coaches he’ll figure out how to get around the big league bases successfully.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if  Sierra is the starting Left Fielder when the first pitch of the 2013 season is thrown, he’s got a cannon for an arm.  I know this could be an issue with Anthony Gose waiting in AAA but Rasmus has the Centre Field spot on lockdown for now and Jose Bautista isn’t giving up Right Field anytime soon.

We’re into the dog days of summer but at this point in the season it’s great seeing young talent like Sierra get the chance to prove themselves.  As the losses add up I need to find positives in the season and Moises Sierra being the Blue Jay of the Week is definitely a positive.
