It was a pretty bismal week in Blue Jays land but once again I bring you my Blue Jay of the Week!
This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. David Cooper! (1B-#30)
| 6 hits | 2 runs | 2 hr | 2 rbi | .286 avg | .952 ops |
The numbers aren’t very impressive but neither were any of the stat lines for the other Blue Jays. But in a week which includes a 2-5 record and a whopping total of 4 runs scored at Tropicana Field, what more can you expect?
We as a fan base and ball club are officially grinding through the dog days of summer with 13 players on the DL and now an official total of 51 players on the big league roster this season. The rate of injuries has been staggering and it has most of the usual suspects for Blue Jay of the Week down in Dunedin rehabbing or sitting on the bench enjoyi… errr watching the games.
Cooper is one of five Blue Jays currently with the team who began the season in AAA Las Vegas all of whom are getting significant playing time right now. So how does Coop take advantage of this playing time? How about a 9th inning home run off of the un-hittable Fernando Rodney? I know they didn’t win the game but it’s great to see the kid display opposite field power which could keep him in Toronto for years to come.
Moises Sierra played great through his first 7 career games so some may wonder why he didn’t get the nod this week. I’ll admit the kid played great but when you weigh his bonehead base running vs. Cooper’s clutch hitting, I’ll go with the clutch hitting everyday of the week.
Cooper has posted a solid .278 batting average in roughly 100 ab’s thus far. I’ve got two questions with 52 games remaining, how many more at-bats will he get and how many more times will he be the Blue Jay of the Week?
