Coming off a 1-5 stretch since I named David Cooper my Blue Jay of the Week, who performed well enough to deserve the honour this week?
This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. Jose Bautista! (@JoeyBats19)
| 6 hits | 4 hr | 7 rbi | 7 bb | 5 runs | .316 avg | .500 obp |
Slim pickins’ this week as the team went a miserable 1-5 and they seem to have the injury bug floating around the clubhouse. The lone bright spot I could find over he past 7 days is Jose Bautista and that’s why he is the Blue Jay of the Week!
As I stated many weeks ago the one and only JoeyBats is officially back and he has never been more needed than right now. The line-up from top to bottom has been less than stellar with a few bright spots and as usual the home runs off of #19′s bat are the brightest. He smacked 4 more home runs this week with one of them coming off Washington Nationals rising star Stephen Strasburg.
He has posted a .236 avg which is very un-Jose like but 7 walks this past week shows that he still has one of the most keen eyes in all of baseball but as a fan I can’t help but scream at my television every time he pops out.
How about his defence? I feel like I too often overlook the Blue Jay of the Week on the ‘other side of the field’. As usual Bautista has been making runners look a’fool by unleashing his cannon of an arm on baserunners. His latest victim? The Nationals other rising star, Bryce Harper. Nice try kid.
As great as it is to see Jose Bautista leading the way on the stat sheet I would love to see someone else be the Blue Jay of the Week because I can only assume that would mean the team isn’t on a 1-5 skid during that time. So with that said… Let’s go Blue Jays!
What do you think about my Blue Jay of the Week?
