I certainly didn’t see this coming…
This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. David Cooper! (1b)

I’ll be the first to admit… I’ve never been a David Cooper fan.
It’s nothing personal but in his 81 plate appearances in 2011 at the big league level he did not do much to impress me. Fast forward to 2012 and his current 47 plate appearances and I’ve done a complete 180 degree turn on the kid, I’m quickly becoming a fan of his.
Since his call-up on May 25th he has shown a lot of opposite field power, spraying the ball to the gap and over the wall. Over the years I’ve heard that he’s a great hitter but it wouldn’t translate to the big league level and I’m quickly learning that David Cooper doesn’t care what others have been saying about him. He really doesn’t have anything else to prove in AAA considering he is the reigning 2011 PCL batting champion.
Moving forward it will be interesting to see what happens to Cooper. Vladdy is preparing for his Blue Jays debut, Yan Gomes is back up with the club and a bit more versatile defensively and there is always Adam Lind attempting to get a ticket back to Toronto. With the way that Cooper has played thus far I think he deserves more time with the Blue Jays, I would hate to see him be the victim of the numbers game while he is producing so well.
Will he keep up this great pace? Could he possibly lead the Blue Jays in batting average by the end of the year? I really wouldn’t be surprised after seeing his abilities over the past 12 games but the real question is… will he even be here another 12 games?
What do you think about my Blue Jay of the Week?
