For Fans, By Fans

Blue Jay of the Week!

The Blue Jays are off to a solid start and it was a bit of a dog fight for the Blue Jay of the Week!  I was sure it was Edwin Encarnacion until I gave it a second thought and it smacked me in the face.

Apr.6-Apr.12

This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. Kelly Johnson! (2B)

| 6 hits | 1 hr | 3 rbi | 5 run | 4 bb | .316 avg |

A lot of fans seemed to be down on Kelly Johnson coming into 2012 after he posted less than stellar numbers after becoming a Blue Jay during the 2011 season.  Then he was slotted into the 2 spot ahead of Jose Bautista during Spring Training and some fans weren’t quite sure what to think.

Kelly has proved any doubters wrong by getting out of the gate with a strong start showing why Farrell has placed a lot of trust in his stick.  Johnson has a keen eye which is evident by his 4 walks over the past week and he has some speed to burn on the base path, he hasn’t recorded any stolen bases yet but using his legs to pick up extra bases ahead of Bautista is something Blue Jays fans can expect to see a lot of this season.

This is exactly what the best hitter in baseball needs in front of him, a solid stick, keen eye and someone who will frequently be Blue Jay of the Week!
