I can smell it, I can feel it, it’s almost here… Spring Training! This week I’m not going with someone because of particular things they may have done this past week, I’m simply choosing this guy because we haven’t discussed him enough on the #BIBpodcast! With that said let’s see who is the Blue Jay of the Week!
This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. Brett Lawrie! (@blawrie13)
He’s a beaut! This Canadian kid feels like the Holy Grail at the BIB office, he is literally living our dream of growing up in Canada and playing for the Toronto Blue Jays.
The passion, hustle and 5 tool skill set that he brings to the ballpark 162 games a year is hard to find anywhere else in the Major Leagues. He arrived on the big league scene in 2011 after an injury setback the day before his original call-up was supposed to happen.
We waited in anticipation as we had been since Alex Anthopoulos acquired Lawrie from the Milwaukee Brewers for Shaun Marcum. Finally he made his long awaited debut as he exploded onto the scene. Flashing the leather on defence, burning a path around the bases while also hitting a walk-off homerun it seemed like he could do it all.
Time to wake up if you didn’t notice because he CAN do it all. Both Canada and the Toronto Blue Jays organisation have high hopes for this great young ball player. I dare say his plaque will hang in Cooperstown some day, maybe I’m delusional because I’m such a big fan but I’ve never felt that way about a young player. Brett Lawrie seems to have ‘it’.
I expect a strong sophomore campaign from Lawrie and I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last time he is the Blue Jay of the Week!
What do you think about my Blue Jay of the Week?
