Bautista and Romero top winners at Blue Jays awards

Right-fielder Jose Bautista and starting pitcher Ricky Romero took home top honors and were named player and pitcher of the year respectively, as voted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.

Bautista followed up his break-out 2010 season with an even more impressive 2011 with a .302 batting average, 43 home runs and 103 RBIs.  Romero had an equally successful 2011 on the mound with a 15-11 record and 2.92 ERA.

Catcher J.P. Arencibia took home Rookie of the Year honors and pitcher Dustin McGowan won the John Cerutti Award as the person associated with the Blue Jays who displays the goodwill, co-operation and character exemplified by the late former pitcher.
