What a big week it is for the BIB crew as we debut our #BIBpodcast on Monday! With that said the person who wins the first Blue Jay of the Week in 2012 will be discussed on our inaugural podcast. Without further a do…
This weeks Blue Jay of the Week is…. Alex Anthopoulos!
Personally I think Alex Anthopoulos has done a tremendous job as General Manager of the Toronto Blue Jays and I feel that he has the ship heading in the right direction.
So what he hasn’t admitted how much he bid on Yu Darvish, why does he have to tell the world? What good does it do a GM to put everything out there for his fan base and the rest of the baseball world to hear and know? AA keeps his cards tight to his body and that’s what I want in a GM.
Recently he has shored up some bullpen problems by bringing back long time Blue Jay Jason Frasor and locked down left-handed reliever Darren Oliver to replace the departing Jesse Carlson. The Prince Fielder rumors have quieted down but I am not counting our GM out of that race, adding Prince would put the club oh-so-close to being a legit playoff contender.
I couldn’t have been more thrilled when he managed to off-load the heavy contracts of Vernon Wells and Alex Rios last season, even if getting nothing in return for Rios. The addition of Brett Lawrie has been huge for the franchise as he will be a building block deep into the future. Many people questioned and even criticized AA when he inked Jose Bautista to a multi-million dollar contract extension but I have a feeling the young GM wasn’t phased one bit.
As we approach Spring Training your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not AA has any more deals in the works, in the mean time I’ll be holding onto hope for Prince – #InAAweTrust
